There are all sort of things sold here, raging from clothes, shoe to vegetable to household..
You name it you get it~
Off course what I concern the most is the FOOD here!
There are many traditional food of Sabah sold here..
Many with weird names and interesting way of eating it~
Really "Open" my eyes when my sabahan coursemate introduce us these unique food.
P/s: It is always better to have a Sabahan friend as your guide to help you see the "unseen"~

Colourful drinks..
I don't usually drink colourful drink...
Colouring.. But once in a while is still acceptable..

Coconut drinks

This is the "MUST EAT" kuih!!! Yummy!!
Not sure what is the name but it is a significant food of Kota Belud..
Actually you can find it almost every where in Kota Belud..
Here are some tricks to choose the best kuih to try:
Always choose for those that are freshly cooked rather than those already packed in plastic.
It's always taste better when it is still hot~
There are 2 choices of taste: Gula Melaka and Pandan.
I think Gula Melaka taste better for me.

~A little boy frying the kuih in Tamu~

There are many corns sold here..
Seems like it was a popular food in Kota Belud too~

This is a tapai made of Corn..
It was wrapped using leaves.
It was sticky and taste slightly of corn..

Banbangan is a super sour mango side dish~
It is a traditional dish of sabah too.

This is fermentation initiator used in traditional alcohol fermentation.

There are many vegetables and fishes sold here.

Fresh Fish

Salted Fish

Fish marinated with a type of herb that is black colour.
The Mak cik said they usually fried these and eat.

" I Sell FISH!!" xp

Little girl helping her mom selling calms.

There are many traditional thing sold here too~

Traditional methods to calm down naughty kids??

Parang with nice craftsmanship - seems like very popular among the locals.

Clarence's Home Grill Steakhouse KK

Finally it's a Sunday that I can finally rest without any Field work..
Finally I can spent some quality time with my friends and go find for FOOD!!

This time we went to Clarence's Home Grill Steakhouse.
It is a restaurant that stay quite "hidden" without any fancy decorations.
It is located just beside Party Play Lintas...
P/s: When my friend told me about this restaurant, I was like "Got Meh?"
I didn't really aware of this steakhouse even though I pass through it quite frequently...

The interior design of this steakhouse is simple, warm English design.
It gives a feeling like eating at home.
P/s: May be that's why it is called Home Grill Steakhouse~

This steakhouse is quite small and it fits in a limited number of customers.
But it was full during that day..
It's customers was mainly families that came here for dinners and some even  celebrates their birthday here~
It is an ideal place for birthday parties as you can gain privacy here and have fun with your friends.
Off course, it is always better to book for reservation if you have large amount of guest coming.
P/s: The phone number is provided at the end of the post.
:)

The customer service here was great too.
They have a great smile and provide fast and comfortable services.

They get an "A" for the cleanliness so you can have your dinner safely without any worries.
What about the food?
Well, Lets have a look at the menu~

It serves full course of European style dishes here.
They have promotions on their set menu of a main course, soup of the day, Butter roll,
salad, Ice-cream and coffee or tea.
The set menu price range from RM18+, RM24+ and RM28+ per set .
P/s: service change not include

So, we pick the RM18 sets~
It is consider very cheap with all the side dishes included!

The dinner started off with the soup of the day which was mushroom soup that day ,butter roll and salad.

I just love the creamy soup dipped with the butter roll~
A prefect combination~
As for salad, it was just ok..
Next on, followed by the main course.

\
I ordered the Rosemary Lamb Chop as recommended by my friends before.
Love the tenderness of the meat and it was juicy and soft too.
P/s: Dislike the lamb chop of other restaurant that I usually found it quite hard to chew the lamb.

Wei Ping ordered the Home Mix Grill.
You can try different types of steak in these dish as it is the combination of different steak.
We have lamb chop, Chicken chop, Grill Snapper (fish) and hot dogs.
It is recommended if you wan to try all the dishes at once but the portion is quite small..
Lamb chop was great as I mention above,
Chicken chop was superb too as it was soft too,
Grill Snapper was delicious with lemon juice added on top.
Overall, Home Mix Grill was Great~

Shurn Chen a.k.a Lao Da ordered Nutty Chicken Chop.
The chicken chop was crispy.
Lao da's comment was ok...

Followed up was ICE -CREAM!
The texture was a bit rough but it was ok for me as I love the Vanilla taste~
Not too sweet~
P/s: Wei Ping didn't like the texture..
She even add in coffee into the ice-cream to make it softer.. xp
But I just like the way it was.

Coffee or tea was provided too..
Didn't really finished it cause I was over Fulled!!
It was worthy and cheap as you can eat till Super FULL only with the price of RM18!!

Outfit of the day: Tops from Kitchen, Pants from Niichi and fake collar (D.I.Y)
Actually I always wear these clothes as limited item in my wardrobe~

Street Photography: Photography Trip in The Village of Ulu Rampai, Kota Belud Part 2

In Part 2, I would like to show more on the people and animals i met during the field trip.
There are a lots of animals that you rarely see in the village~
And animals here are allowed to walk freely in the village.

Introducing the CUTE goat!!!
I seldom saw goat before!
P/s: except those goat milk seller who bring their little goat to Pasar malam to attract customer.
There are a lots of goat walking here and there freely  in the village..
They are just like cats or dogs in the city...
I feel really excited looking at them~
Love to make "Mek~~~~~" sound to grab their attention~

Their are lots of cow here too~
They are called "Sapi" here~

Well... Having lots of cows mean having lots of BULL SHIT!!!
There are Bull shit all around the road.
You really have to keep an eye on the way you are walking if you do not want to step into these Bombs~
And Of course the AROMA of the Bull shit indicates that you are in a VILLAGE!

Horses are available here too!!!
Wake up early in the morning just to see them~
but they are afraid of human so it was hard to take a closer picture of them..
They can simply pass through into others yard and eat grasses freely.
May be there is no thief in the village so the owners let their animals to move freely.

Not to forget the "Kampung"  Chicken in the village~

Villagers of Kampung Rampaian Ulu are very friendly and warm~
They feel happy and welcome us here~

Really Thanks to Mak Cik who let us stay in her house and cook delicious meal for us~

This is a special village dish called Sayur Badak.
It is actually young banana that is cooked as vegetable!
Never thought of banana can be eaten or cooked this way..
But it was really delightful and yummy~
Fall in love with the dish and I ate alot of it during dinner~

While walking around the village, I snap quite a number of photo of the friendly villagers.

An old lady wearing their traditional hats.

Old man with his special coconut bicycle~

Kids that followed us everywhere~
seems like they are our Guardian. xp

Funny things happen when one of the boy's sandals fall into the mangrove swamp.
Everyone was pulling him up when he went down to pick up his sandals.

Another group of my course mate were doing survey with the villagers.

While i busy taking photo of the cute baby~ xp

Found this little bicycle in one of the villagers house.
Feel like riding on it but just afraid to broke it down~

Met some ladies who were fishing by the river~

After they get the fish, they will put into this basket.
Here are some random shots:
Notice Board of primary school of village

White shoe of kids in the village

Clothes hanging along the fences~

Some flower shots

Fishing net used to catch fishes and shrimps.

This is the mountain view on the way to Pantai Keramat.
To go there at first we ride a 4 wheel Hilux to go up the hill.
How ever, due to only 1 hilux available, the remaining 8 person have to sit at the bonnet...
8 people squeezing at the back trying to get a stable spot to sit and hold on while going uphill..
That's a painful yet fun experience~
Then we need to walk up and down the hill as the car couldn't go any further in.
After almost 40 minutes of walking finally we reach the Pantai Keramat.
It is a beautiful beach without anyone else there..
We own the Beach!!! Yeah!!
It's a beach where only the locals know bout it..
They will go there by motorcycle to fish and swim~

Didn't went to beach for quite some time~
So happy to step on the sandy white beach again~ ^^v

This breathtaking scene was spot while we were walking out from the beach~
We can see the other side of Kinabalu Mountain from here..
Admire the beauty of nature~

Celowet Photo of My Lecture~
He was teaching me how to take a celowet picture that time~

Villagers in Kampung Rampaian Ulu are all very friendly and kind.
Learn alot during this trip especially for a city kid like me~
The food here are all very delicious and "fresh" to me~
Village life is actually not bad at all~

Most of the photo taken using this Olympus Digital Camera.
